A new database puts a health equity lens on responding to public health emergencies. The Minority Health Social Vulnerability Index, developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the HHS Office of Minority Health, builds on the social vulnerability database that emergency response planners use, adding factors associated with COVID-19 outcomes.

Study Negates Link Between Scope of Practice, Opioid Use
A new study refutes arguments made that easing restrictions on nurses could worsen the country’s opioid crisis. Author Benjamin J. McMichael, JD, PhD, from the University of Alabama School of Law, finds no evidence that allowing nurse practitioners to prescribe increases opioid prescriptions—indeed, findings seem to show the opposite.
