The Public Service Loan Forgiveness program is broken. This needs to change.

Are you one of the millions of student loan borrowers struggling to access the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program? Tell the Biden administration your story.

President George W. Bush and a bipartisan Congress created the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program in 2007 to alleviate the burden of student debt for dedicated public service workers, including teachers, firefighters, nurses and military members. The idea was simple: Work in public service for 10 years and have your remaining student debt forgiven. Unfortunately, this hasn’t been the case.

Ninety-eight percent of PSLF applicants have been denied federal student loan forgiveness. Out of hundreds of thousands of military members, only 124 have had their loans forgiven. Mismanagement and abuse by student loan servicers has left hundreds of thousands deeper in debt and disqualified borrowers with older federal loans from accessing forgiveness.

Take action today: The Public Service Loan Forgiveness program is broken. This needs to change.

Now is the time for the Biden administration and the Department of Education to deliver on the promise of PSLF and to eliminate student debt for borrowers with a decade of public service.
