Dear Friend,
In the coming days, the United States House of Representatives will vote on a government spending bill. Votes on amendments to this bill are potentially slated to begin as soon as today.
As you know, the pot lobby desperately tries to use the appropriations process to load up such must-pass spending bills with scores of self-serving language and amendments.
I will go through some of the proposed language further down, but please take a second now to call your Representative and urge them to oppose any must-pass spending bill that is loaded up with Big Pot giveaways.
U.S. House Switchboard: (202) 224-3121
First and foremost, the so-called “minibus” bill includes language that would allow the marijuana industry to set up pot shops in Washington D.C. by removing a long-standing provision in spending bills that expressly prohibited this from occurring.
This is in direct defiance of the budget bill put forward by the Biden-Harris Administration, which included the provision.
The bill also includes a provision that would shield banks from being punished for flouting federal law and providing financial services to the marijuana industry.
One further amendment that will be considered today in the House Rules Committee is the Blumenauer amendment to prohibit the use of federal funds from “interfering” in states that have “legalized” marijuana.
In sum, this amendment would effectively prevent the Food and Drug Administration from being able to take action against marijuana companies who flout FDA guidelines.
Simply put, these provisions are unacceptable from a public health and safety perspective and your Member of the House needs to know that these provisions have been included in this massive bill.
Call your representative now and urge them to oppose the Big Pot Spending Bill.
Thank you for all that you do,
