Let's keep Bulwell Clean - together! ??
litter
As part of the work to *keep Bulwell clean and tidy, since April your local Councillor Ethan Radford* has been organising and taking part in litter picks across Bulwell.
We now have four regular monthly sessions up and running, adding up to a total of around six litter picks a month. *To date, a total of 153 volunteers have collected 240 bags of litter since the start of April.*
Each bag of litter collected by us is money saved from council services that can be better spent not clearing up after others. You too can help keep your area clean by signing up as a Clean Champion and join the growing number of residents in Bulwell who are standing up to litter louts and fly tippers.
Join us!
* *Sign up to be a Clean Champion* [ [link removed] ] to receive a free high vis, litter picker, bin bags and more
* Come along to meet us on* Saturday 21st August* 10:30 - 12 for Bulwell Bogs, meeting at the steps as you leave the tram car park.
* and again on *Saturday 18th September* - same time and place

Wildflower meadows spring up in Bulwell ??
meadow
Your local *Councillor Maria Joannou has been working with three schools in Bulwell to plant wildflower meadows*. Crabtree School and Hempshall Hall schools sowed meadows on the grass verges in Crabtree Estate. St Mary’s Church of England School opted to breathe life into three neglected planters near the school
A Biodiversity Officer from Nottingham City Council gave a talk to children before the sowing of the meadows,* teaching them about the importance of bees as pollinators of plants and how crucial it is to have these meadows in our local communities.* The children thoroughly enjoyed this experience and some of them live very near to these meadows so will see them bloom.
*Want to join in?*
You can sow wildflowers in your garden through to September, and help bees in Bulwell buzzing away happily.

Revamp for Crabtree Estate! ✨
path
*Crabtree Estate has been selected as a pilot for future Decent Homes programme by Nottingham City Homes.* Springhead and Holwood Courts and the surrounding area will be improved, including Hoefield Crescent, Bonnington Close and Willow Hill Close.
To date, *paths have been widened and resurfaced on Bonnington and Willow Close to make access safer for mobility scooters and wheelchairs. The grass verges have been landscaped with the planting of trees, scrubs and the sowing of wildflowers.*
Fencing is being looked at and one area that is a fly tipping hotspot on Willow Hill close has been incorporated into a neighbouring garden and fenced off.
*The improvement works to this much neglected area of Crabtree, have made a huge difference,* with most residents delighted with the transformation.

New activities in Snape Wood after lockdown
boxing
*Councillor Jane Lakey has been working with volunteers at Snape Wood Community Centre*, who used the enforced Covid quiet periods to plan new activities for this summer and beyond.* Many people have felt very isolated and out-of-routine for the last 15 months, so they chose activities to meet different needs:*
* *Pat’s Community café* will open Thursdays, at 10.30 in the morning for coffee and snacks, and 12 until 1.45pm for lunch – affordable prices and friendly volunteers (the 68 and 69 bus stops right opposite, and there is lots of car parking space)
* *Fitness Boxing for children* (to 14) *and adults* (15+) run on Friday evenings – run by local Hatton Boxing Trainer, Scott Saunders
[email protected]
* *Snape Wood Arts & Crafts Group* runs from 2 – 3.30pm on Thursday afternoon – led by Jo Tucker
[email protected] - you can bring your own work or join with Jo’s group project and learn some new skills
The Centre has a computer suite, and a large hall, which are available as training venues.
Snape Wood Community Centre would be delighted to welcome anyone who would like to join in these activities, or to volunteer. For those looking for work, volunteering is valuable experience for the CV and the Centre can offer access to some free training for recognised qualifications, and literacy and numeracy support.
