*For all the latest news from the Nottingham Asian Arts Council*
Hi there,
Welcome to the summer edition of our NAAC e-alert.?Summer really is here now, with? temperatures soaring nearly everyday! Keep hydrated and take care in the heat...
Having lived under the shadow of Covid-19 for 16 months we are now faced with the?*removal of restrictions [ [link removed] ]?*from Monday, 19 July. Transitioning back into the physical world?from the?virtual world can be difficult, so let's continue to stay safe and help prevent the spread of Covid-19. That?s why it?s really important that we?continue to be careful; wear face coverings to protect others, keep washing your hands, maintain space where you can and meet others outdoors where possible. It doesn't mean that we are free from the threat of this virus just because restrictions are lifted...and remember 'My mask protects you, your mask protects me'.

*Nottingham Mela 2021, Friday 10 to Sunday 12 September 2021*
*Nottingham Mela 2021 is happening!* After much thought, we?ve decided to go ahead and create a smaller version of the usual Mela, with careful consideration given to a hybrid offer, including a programme of ?in person? and digital events. New Art Exchange will be the hub of Mela activity, with a full weekend takeover of the building from 11-12th September.
Unity and Wellbeing are our themes for this year?s Mela, the weekend will be full of opportunities to come together and re-connect after this time of isolation. The programme includes Bollywood, Bhangra, Kathak workshops and performances, contemporary and traditional storytelling for all ages, raag recitals, live music, DJ sets, art workshops, rangoli, yoga, poetry and a delicious desi menu created by the New Art Exchange caf?.
In the build up to the Mela, artists will be working with local schools and community groups on two visual arts projects, these will be exhibited during the Mela weekend.
While our focus is on bringing people back together in person, we?ll also have a small digital event programme live-streamed during the weekend.?Through working closely with regional artists and creatives, we hope to bring you a Mela which celebrates local talent and community participation!
*More details to follow as we develop the programme and projects!*
