Americans owe more than $140 billion in medical debt. It’s the largest source of debt in collections in our country and the #1 cause of bankruptcy for American families.

This is a national crisis — and it needs to be fixed.

For starters, I’m working in the Senate to pass legislation to protect folks being crushed by medical debt from the aggressive tactics of predatory debt collectors. But to fix our broken health care system and ensure reliable access to quality affordable care for all Americans, we will need to keep pushing hard.

This is a national priority. If you agree that we need to take action to fix the problem of crushing medical debt, please add your name to our petition today >>

While Americans in every state are impacted by overwhelming medical debt, it’s even worse for those living in states that chose NOT to expand Medicaid as part of the Affordable Care Act .

I am working now with my Senate Democratic colleagues to ensure Medicaid expansion is included in the final budget reconciliation package — and to expand Medicare coverage to cover dental, hearing and vision care. And we need take action to protect families struggling with crushing medical debts.

Millions of American families are vulnerable due to no fault of their own. That’s not right. No one can pick and choose when they get sick or have a medical emergency.

Click here to sign our petition and show your support for taking action to rein in predatory debt collectors and make health care — and drug prices — more affordable.
