Dear ,
President Biden continues to enforce one of Donald Trump’s cruelest policies: mass expulsions of immigrants at the border. The vast majority of people, apart from unaccompanied children, are turned away. And while the Administration may soon end the ban on families, single people will be left hanging in the balance. Continuing to prevent legally single people from entering the U.S. will result in the expulsion of nearly all LGBTQ refugees at the border.
It’s nothing less than a pink ban.
Add your name to call on President Biden to end the expulsion of LGBTQ people at the border.
When I say almost all LGBTQ people are turned away, I mean only a tiny trickle of our community is currently allowed to enter. The pink ban includes queer individuals who are fleeing alone and queer families who lack access to legal recognition in their countries of origin. Virtually all LGBTQ couples will be deemed legally single by the U.S. government and turned away. This is unconscionable.
Sexual orientation and gender identity are protected human rights in the U.S., meaning all of these individuals will have very strong asylum claims. In fact, when Immigration Equality or other sister organizations represent an individual who is queer, that person will be successful more than 95% of the time.
Sign the petition to end the pink ban. Tell the Biden administration to end this cruel Trump-era policy immediately.
The President must not end this slowly. He must end it immediately. LGBTQ people are among the most targeted minority groups at the border. They are kidnapped, extorted, and raped. And these are people who are literally on our doorstep. Refusing to allow them into the United States is a human rights atrocity.
While I’m delighted that the White House just celebrated Pride Month, a refreshing change of pace in our capital, there’s nothing to be proud of in excluding LGBTQ refugees from seeking protection in the United States. The President must end the pink ban immediately.
Thank you,
Aaron C. Morris, Executive Director
