As the Political Director for the California Democratic Party, I spend my days meeting with activists, elected officials, candidates, campaign professionals, and more about how we can work together to elect Democrats up and down the ballot. And I’ll be frank: we’re worried, John.

It’s become clear that the Republican Party playbook is no longer about winning the most votes, it’s about bending the rules to gain power. And that so often means keeping people from voting.

Republicans in state legislatures across the country have introduced hundreds of bills designed to suppress the vote, and even here in California, far right “poll-watching” groups are recruiting thousands of volunteers to challenge ballots and police the polls on election day.

Combating voter suppression is one of our biggest fights ahead. That’s why the California Democratic Party is launching our own Voter Protection Team -- a team of volunteers and attorneys who work through election day to ensure that voters in all corners of our state have the ability to fairly and equally exercise their right to vote.

Debunking misinformation and challenging Republican attempts to suppress the vote is a big project, but a necessary one. So I’m asking: can you chip in $10 today? Every dollar donated goes toward funding critical work to protect the vote in 2022 and beyond.

As the Political Director for the Nation’s largest state party, I firmly believe that there is no force more powerful than all of us advocating for progressive change together. We can get out the vote and elect candidates who will provide for working families, combat climate change, invest in housing and public schools, pursue all legal avenues to protect the vote nationwide, and so much more.
