Over 400 people are dead after over 900 shootings across the United States in the last week alone. This amount of violence is almost unfathomable, but it is our horrific reality. And with gun violence continuing to increase at this rate, we are on track to have the deadliest year in recent memory.
What’s worse is that we know what has to be done to save lives from gun violence, but the Senate has failed to expand Brady Background Checks despite months of waiting. And when each day that passes leaves hundreds more people affected by this epidemic, we cannot afford to wait any longer to pass common sense gun violence prevention legislation.

My mom was shot and killed when she opened the door to her home in 2003. In an instant, my family and our future was changed forever, but then we were forced to wait. We had to wait for 12 years to finally convict the man who killed my mom. After, I still waited, until I was ready to channel my experience into this fight to save lives.
