This fall, we have a historic number of ranked-choice elections in five Minnesota cities – Minneapolis, St. Paul, St. Louis Park, Bloomington, and Minnetonka, and FairVote Minnesota staff and volunteers are working hard to educate voters, campaigns and cities about Ranked Choice Voting! When it comes to these efforts, we have to be fully transparent – there’s both bad news and good news to report.
The bad news: Unfortunately, with Covid-19 restrictions the past year, the fundraising downturn that happens in off-cycle elections and the loss of a traditional major grant due to the foundation’s focus on the needs of those impacted by COVID-19, our fundraising efforts have fallen short of where they need to be to carry out these critical education efforts. We have cut expenses and are committed to doing everything we can to hire field staff to do this important work.
