Friends,

In these troubling times, we need patriots more than ever. We need Americans who understand the promise of this nation, and work to renew it every day. It can be easy to lose faith in the commitment of some in Washington, D.C. to secure the blessings of liberty for future generations. For too many Americans, we've fallen short of the ideals our Founders set aside.

My faith comes from the American people, ordinary men and women who want to live and work and provide for their children. My faith comes from those who have struggled for worker's rights, those who built the strongest middle class this earth has seen. My faith comes from civil rights activists who demanded, and demand today, that our government live up to the simple truth that we are all created equal. My faith is renewed by men and women around the country who won't stand for human rights abuses in detention centers being operated in our name. My faith is grounded and strengthened by the sacrifice of millions who have taken up arms in the defense of liberty around the world.

In short, my faith in the persistence of liberty and the idea of this great nation lies with you. Together, we will continue to fight for the America we know and love.
