Dear NRDC Activist,
Arctic permafrost is thawing so rapidly that the ground in Alaska's North Slope may not even be solid enough to support the machinery needed for oil drilling.
I can't think of a clearer sign that we must cease oil and gas development in this fragile ecosystem. But unbelievably, oil industry giant ConocoPhillips is so desperate to move forward with a massive new expansion of toxic oil drilling in the Arctic that the company actually plans to install "chillers" in the ground to keep it solid enough for their rapacious drilling — drilling that will make the cycle of warming and melting even worse.
We cannot go on like this. That's why NRDC is fighting on to break the fossil fuel industry's stranglehold on our environment, in the Arctic and beyond. It's why we're doing our all to ensure oil companies stay out of the iconic Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. And because this fight is so critical, we're offering a FIVE TIMES MATCH until July 31.
Donate just $5 and help us stop Big Oil from destroying what remains of our wild planet, end our dependence on fossil fuel, and defend our environment on all fronts. Every dollar donated will be MATCHED 5X — that's right, FIVE times, up to $250,000!
even just $5 can make a big impact, so please don't sit this one out.
As part of this fight, NRDC is currently in federal court challenging the Trump Administration's approval of ConocoPhillips's winter oil and gas exploration on the doorstep of an Indigenous community in the Western Arctic.
And NRDC is working overtime to help the Biden administration put an end, once-and-for-all, to the desperate attempts to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling — which would be a death sentence for Arctic wildlife and the Arctic ecosystem.
Industrialization would disrupt the migration, breeding, and calving of the sensitive Porcupine caribou, to the point that they may not survive. And without the caribou and other wildlife, Indigenous communities who have relied on the natural values of these lands for generations will face a devastating blow to their way of life.
We will never survive our climate crisis if we allow Big Oil to pursue drilling like this.
We're out of time to act — and we must do everything possible NOW to end our dependency on fossil fuels and transition to a healthy, sustainable future.
Donate before July 31 and your gift will be MATCHED FIVE TIMES, up to $250,000. That's 5X the impact to fight back against Big Oil's dangerous attempts to pillage our wild places for profit and to defend our environment in the most effective way possible. Even $5 has the impact of $25!
Nothing less than the future of our planet is at stake, which is why NRDC will continue to fight with everything we've got against the fossil fuel industry — from courtroom battles to major advocacy campaigns to putting pressure on President Biden and Interior Secretary Deb Haaland to do the right thing by putting our environment first.
Thank you for everything you've done to support this vital work — we couldn't do this without you.
Sincerely,
Garett Rose
