ACTION ALERT: Contact Your Senator and Demand that Dilawar Syed Be Removed from Consideration as Deputy Administrator of the Small Business Administration

The Biden Administration has nominated yet another individual with a questionable background and with known ties to an anti-Israel organization. Mr. Dilawar Syed was nominated to be Deputy Administrator of the Small Business Administration. Mr. Syed is currently on the Board of Directors with Emgage Action, which calls itself a “Muslim civic advocacy organization” in the U.S.
However, this organization is a great deal more than a Muslim anti-defamation league. It supports H.R.2590, legislation calling Israel an occupying power, and called to stop American military assistance to Israel. The organization’s Twitter Account clearly demonstrates where they stand regarding issues relating to Israel, as well as the United States. For example, on June 10th, they retweeted Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib’s tweet, defending Rep. Ihan Omar’s outrageous allegations that the United States, Israel, Hamas and the Taliban are all in the same league. (This tweet has now been removed.)
EMET has been in discusison with senior Republicans on the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee who have confirmed that Mr. Syed was passed by a voice vote out of committee last week but removed from the calendar because it needs to be a roll-call vote. Staffers tell us that the vote will be coming up in the next work period and can be prevented from passing the committee if senators refuse to provide quorum in opposition.
The Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee members are Senators: Chariman Ben Cardin (D-MD), Ranking Member Paul Rand (R-KY), Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Ed Merkey (D-MA), Cory Booker (D-NJ), Chris Coons (D-DE), Mazie Hirono (D-HI), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Jacky Rosen (D-NV), John Hickenlooper (D-CO), Marco Rubio (R-FL), James Risch (R-ID), Tim Scott (R-SC), Joni Ernst (R-IA), James Inhofe (R-OK), Todd Young (R-IN), John Kennedy (R-LA), Josh Hawley (R-MO), and Roger Marshall (R-KS).
As the confirmation process goes through the Senate and not the House, please contact your Senator’s office immediately. We urge you to cexpress your oposition to this nomination, and simply say that Mr. Syed be removed from consideration as Deputy Administrator of the Small Business Administration. A senior official on the Small Business Administration who demonizes our closest ally, Israel, is a risk to small business who have close ties to Israeli companies. His appointment will hinder the close cooperation businesses in America and Israel have in areas such as cyber-security, AI, medicine, bio-medicine, and more.
Even more importantly, with each confirmation of individuals who support these radical anti-Israel views, we are lending an aura of legitimacy to views that were just a few short years ago, considered to be way beyond the pale. We are allowing the mainstreaming of views that are inimical to the existence of the state of Israel.
