Dear Twin Ports DSA Members and Associates,
We had a great meeting last night. Senator Jen McEwen filled us in with news of the founding meeting of the Democratic Socialist Caucus of the DFL, and then we had a good discussion with her on a variety of topics, from the Minnesota Health Plan to the Boycott, Divest and Sanction movement. One of the things she stressed was that getting politicians to say they are for the Minnesota Health Plan (which is like Medicare for All in MN) is somewhat easy on the Democratic side. What is hard is to make them actually want it enough to fight for it, to make it a driving passion. That's what we need to do for the Minnesota Health Plan, for Medicare for All, for The Green New Deal, and much more.
We also examined several possible T-Shirt designs made by new member Rebecca Farmer. Thank you Rebecca! We made a few suggestions and it looks like the design is almost done (and looks fantastic). This will be an event oriented T-Shirt, easier to read from a distance like when marching.
In other news, we will be participating in the upcoming Spirit Valley Days Parade on August 4th, 6:30 pm. We need as many members as possible to march with us. Any non-members supporting our issues are welcome as well, of course. The float is looking really good! Special thanks again to Mike Kuitu for the float, the truck, and his labor fixing it up. It's now our job to finish decorating it with our messaging.
Our Racial Justice Working Group has changed their meeting times to Wednesday at 5:30, so email Lydia at [email protected] to get involved with them. They have a wonderful new flyer to spread around Duluth, and have been conducting surveys about the Community Response Team proposal.
Next Friday don't miss DSA's virtual Telethon, which kicks off the convention. This should be a fun event. More news on that soon.
In Solidarity,
John Krumm
TPDSA Secretary
