WSJ: U.S. Population Growth Grinds to a Halt
From the story : In half of all states last year, more people died than were born, up from five states in 2019. Early estimates show the total U.S. population grew 0.35% for the year ended July 1, 2020, the lowest ever documented, and growth is expected to remain near flat this year. Later : With the birthrate already drifting down, the nudge from the pandemic could result in what amounts to a scar on population growth, researchers say, which could be deeper than those left by historic periods of economic turmoil, such as the Great Depression and the stagnation and inflation of the 1970s, because it is underpinned by a shift toward lower fertility.

Michigan Strips Emergency Powers from Governor Gretchen Whitmer
From the story: Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) will be stripped of the emergency powers she wielded during the pandemic. On Wednesday, the Michigan state House passed the Unlock Michigan Initiative by a vote of 60-48, Dave Boucher with the Detroit Free Press reported. The state Senate had already done so on July 15. As was reported last month, the Michigan Supreme Court ruled that the state had to certify the voter initiative. Such an initiative repeals the Emergency Powers of Governor Act of 1945.

Dr. Piper: Fake Christianity a Growing Worldview
From the story: “Christianity in this nation is rotting from the inside out,” states Ms. Barna. “MTD is essentially what I would call fake Christianity. Because it has some Christian elements in it, but it’s not really biblical, it’s not really Christian.” And what is MTD exactly? Ms. Barna answers: “The moralistic perspective is we’re here to be good people and to try to do good…The therapeutic aspect is everything is supposed to be geared to making me feel good about myself, ultimately to make me happy. Deism is the idea that God created the world but has no direct involvement in it. Basically, according to MTD, there is a distant God who just wants everyone to be nice, and the purpose of life is to be happy. American ‘Christians’ who have adopted this philosophy have… elevate[d] personal definitions of right and wrong above any objective standard of Truth — like the Bible.”
