Welcome to our weekly newsletter about mental health services and support available in Barnet and beyond. Also bringing you updates on Inclusion Barnet mental health news.

The BIG SURE for Mental Health Event - Borderline Personality Disorder, Wednesday 28th July, 3.00 - 5.00pm

Borderline Personality Disorder, also known as Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder is a mood disorder and as such a mental health condition, characterised by impulsivity, anger and fear of rejection, that can manifest itself in early adulthood and have a huge impact upon a person’s relationships, employment and ability to engage in life.

This webinar explores the main groups, symptoms and causes of BPD, looks at diagnosis and treatment options available and considers how manage and to help to support a person with BPD.

The BIG SURE for Mental Health Event - Mindfulness, Wednesday 28th July, 12.00 - 1.00pm

In this session, you learn to be present in the moment, to process your actions in a kinder and more positive way. To be present and conscious of your environment, emotions and body sensations and to adjust your unconscious automatic behavior to a more consciously aligned space of reason.

The BIG SURE for Mental Health Event - Managing Your Mind: Anxiety, Thursday 29th July, 10.00am - 12.00pm

Everyone can feel anxiety at some time in their lives. This may be triggered by everyday events such and going for an interview or sitting an exam or it may be as a result of experiencing a time of challenge, such as our current situation in respect of the pandemic. It may also be something experienced as the result of trauma or as an ongoing mental health issue. Whatever the cause, anxiety is something that, if we understand it more, we can start to help to address.

This webinar explores the causes of anxiety, the effects it has on our mind and bodies and goes on to explore the effects of negative thinking on our anxieties and finally to consider techniques that can help us to more effectively manage the effects of anxiety.

The BIG SURE for Mental Health Event - Assertiveness Taster, Tuesday 27th July, 2.00 - 3.30pm

Assertiveness is a state of mind, a mode of behaviour, and a communication technique combined into one. Our ability to be assertive is often linked to our self-esteem and learnt behaviours.

This 90-minute taster will demonstrate the benefits of assertiveness, give an understanding of why being assertive can be difficult, and will cover some tips to become more assertive.

Inside Schizophrenia Podcast

Inside Schizophrenia is a long-form monthly podcast providing a unique perspective on life through the lens of people living with schizophrenia and psychosis. New episodes are published the third Wednesday of every month on your favorite podcast player.Each episode includes a conversation between cohosts Rachel Star Withers and Gabe Howard and an interview featuring someone with lived experience, a family member or caregiver, a first responder, or an expert to help us understand schizophrenia in a more meaningful way.

Mind & Mood Support Group celebrated its sixth birthday on 6th January 2021.

During the Covid 19 crisis, we have been running our mental health support group via Zoom.

Both Peter Sartori and Sandra Turner have extensive experience of the mental health system.

We are an independent support group, run by ex service users, for service users, their carers and supporters.

We are a Peer-Led Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisation (DDPO).

Nearly all of our directors and staff have lived experience of disability, including mental health issues and/or long-term health conditions.

We believe that learning to use our lived experience for social change is a skill. We have become experts in harnessing the lived experience of our staff, members, volunteers and the people who use our services to design and deliver higher quality, more person-centred services.
