I’m Senator Claire Wilson and I proudly represent Washington’s 30th Legislative District in South King County. I serve as Majority Caucus Assistant Whip — just one of two lawmakers responsible for knowing whether key legislative proposals have the support necessary to pass the Senate — and I’m one of the first LGBTQ+ women to serve in the State Senate.

Today, I’m going to highlight a few things that we’ve accomplished with a strong Democratic Senate!

I’m proud Washington is such a forward thinking state, but it won’t stay that way if we don’t keep up our work. I’m facing a tough race next year and it would mean a lot to me if you could chip in $10 or whatever you can right now to protect and expand our majority and power all of the fights ahead. So here are a few updates on my work from this legislative session:

→ Expanding access to affordable child care. Governor Inslee signed the Fair Start for Kids Act into law. My legislation will make child care more affordable and accessible to all Washington families! Hundreds of thousands of Washingtonians lack access to child care — and it’s often much too expensive for working families. This bill will slash child care costs, invest in new and existing facilities, and support our child care workers. It’s the largest investment ever made in childcare in WA state’s history.

→ Supporting our children and promoting early learning. I’m proud to announce that SB 5151 — my legislation to support foster children, nature-based preschool, and child care providers — has been signed into law! This bill makes WA state the first state in the nation to license outdoor nature-based preschool programs, eliminate license fees for child care providers until 2023, and issue child specific licenses to allow kinship care for foster children with a goal of family reunification.

→ Fighting for criminal justice reform and supporting formerly incarcerated Washingtonians. SB 5304, my bill to support formerly incarcerated or confined individuals, has also been signed into law! This will help Washingtonians who are re-entering society by expanding access to health care and providing critical support services PRIOR to release — all while reducing recidivism.

I’m proud of all that we have accomplished this legislative session. The progress we’ve made — and all of the good fights that lie ahead — are only possible because of supporters like you. So thank you.

Washington’s 30th Legislative District

P.S. I flipped my district from red to blue in 2018 after an incredibly competitive race. I’m up for re-election in 2022 — along with a whole lot of my Democratic colleagues in swing seats — and your support would go a long way towards defending and expanding our majority. Can I count on you to chip in today? [[link removed]]
