Update from the NBC: Senate Committee Holds ‘Historic' DC Statehood Hearing

President Biden, Stacey Abrams, and the majority of Americans all support D.C. statehood. And the House voted in favor of making D.C. a state. The Senate has held a hearing on the bill, but the GOP is doing everything in their power to stop it!

John: Without statehood, more than 700,000 people who call Washington, D.C. home have absolutely no representation in Congress – which means they have no one to fight on their behalf for critical funding or services.

This meant D.C. got less than half of the COVID-19 relief that every other state received. It means residents have no voice in House or Senate elections – which especially suppresses Black voters, who make up nearly half of the total population.

And when insurrectionists attacked the Capitol Building in January, Mayor Bowser didn't have the power to call the National Guard – which could have saved lives.

D.C. statehood has passed in the House. The Senate has held a hearing on it, but Mitch McConnell is hellbent on stopping it from moving forward. You've been identified as a top Democrat in 19125 so we're counting on you to speak out before midnight to call on Congress to take immediate action:
