As Secretary of State in Michigan, it is my responsibility to protect the
right to vote. I am reaching out because I'm extremely troubled by what
I've seen in the past few weeks -- and I'm sure you are, too.

Republicans are attempting to roll back the very policies that led to
Michigan's historic voter turnout and election security in 2020. It's
outrageous.

I will fight any attempt to limit our fundamental freedom to vote,
especially when we know the voter suppression tactics will have an
outsized impact on communities of color and young voters.

John, I'm the only Democratic incumbent secretary of state
running for reelection in a purple state in 2022, and a far-right group
funded almost entirely by members of Betsy DeVos' family is coming after
me so they can make room for someone who can't be trusted to guard our
freedom to vote.

[ [link removed] ]Can you donate to my re-election campaign so we can fight back against
these attacks and continue to protect our democracy?

Voting is a right, not a privilege. Period. We don't ask permission to
exercise our rights. We insist on them. I will always insist on and defend
yours.

But I need your help in defending our democracy against a steady uptick in
attacks that continue even with the 2020 election behind us. We have to be
able to fight back against the DeVos family and other right-wing attacks
as we head into the 2022 election.

[ [link removed] ]I'm counting on you, John. Please, right now, will you pitch
in whatever you can spare to make sure we can keep defending democracy
together in 2022 and beyond?

Onward,

-- Jocelyn Benson, Michigan Secretary of State
