Many of the candidates taking the stage tonight have agreed with me on this obvious fact:

Climate change is the greatest threat we face as a country. It's the greatest threat we face as a species. It needs to be priority one on Day One for the next president.

So here's my pledge to those candidates on stage today: If you become our nominee and make defeating climate change our nation's number one priority, I'll do everything in my power to support you.

Hundreds of thousands of you have made it clear that this is a top issue for you, your families, and your communities -- in fact, climate ranks as a top priority for Democratic voters across the country and in key early primary states. Our Democratic candidates need to step up and listen to the voters.

During my time on the 2020 presidential campaign trail, I heard from so many people who know that climate change is something we URGENTLY need to take on: Homes have flooded, neighborhoods have burned, crops have been washed away in some areas while they've dried up in others. There's also enormous opportunity to create millions of jobs building a more just, prosperous, and inclusive clean energy economy.

Because of you, nearly all of the major Democratic presidential candidates have put forward ambitious climate plans. Together, we helped make this happen. And we must fight to ensure it continues. Our climate movement didn't end when I ended my presidential campaign because it lives in every single one of us who raise our voices and take action on climate. And we need to do that right now.
