From the very first moment the Green New Deal was unveiled in the halls of Congress, it was always about using our understanding of the devastating impacts of climate change as a once-in-a-lifetime chance to boldly restructure our entire society to be environmentally sustainable while committing to focusing our efforts on meeting the needs of the poor and working-class.
Given the big, bold action that the Green New Deal will require of us, I am excited to tell you about the Green New Deal for Public Schools Act.
Released just last week by DFA’s own, Representative Jamaal Bowman, the Green New Deal for Public Schools Act will invest nearly $1.5 trillion over 10 years in public schools and infrastructure to combat climate change while upgrading every public school building in the country.
With 32 co-sponsors in the U.S. House of Representatives, the Green New Deal for Public Schools Act is a transformative plan that will create over one million jobs in districts most in need all while moving us towards a renewable energy economy.
