Survival Sunday: July 25, 2021

Happy weekend, friends!

Survival Sunday is a round-up of the week's news and resources for
folks who are interested in being prepared. This curated collection of
information is only available to email and Patreon subscribers.

Have a great week ahead!

Daisy

A Short Note

On Friday, we lost a family member to Covid. He'd been in the hospital
since mid-June and on a ventilator since July 8th, although I only
learned of it a few days ago. He had a brief rally where his stats
improved, and we thought he was going to pull through.

Unfortunately, he never came off the ventilator before his death. He was
44 and previously healthy. He leaves behind two daughters and a fiance,
and other family members who mourn him.

In answer to the inevitable questions, I don't know whether or not he
was vaccinated, nor do I know anything about his medical treatment aside
from what I shared above. Respectfully, I ask that you please don't
email me telling me Covid doesn't exist or anything in that vein, as
many people did when I shared my own experience with the virus.

Be sure to get in touch with loved ones you haven't spoken to in a
while. You never know if you'll get another chance.

Please realize that tyranny and a pandemic can exist at the same time.

Yes, this is being manipulated and in many situations, blown out of
proportion. There is a virus killing people and the government is using
it as a way to frighten and control people. These two truths can exist
simultaneously.

WHAT I'VE BEEN READING THIS WEEK

Here are some of the articles I found interesting this week. Let me warn
you - there's a very blatant and disturbing theme.

First, horrifying overreach is being bandied about in the media right
now.
* CNN: Segregate Unvaccinated; Make Them Pay for Tests Every Day

* GOP Governor Says It's Time to Blame the Unvaccinated for Pandemic
Surge

* Biden on Facebook: "They're killing people" with vaccine
misinformation

* Florida Doctor Says CVS Pharmacy Refused to Fill Covid Patient's
Hydroxychlorizine Prescription

* Australian legislator Frank Pangolla demands vaccine passports so
unvaccinated are "controlled and restricted"

It feels like at least half the world is in chaos with riots and
protests.
* FIERCE CLASHES between protesters & police in Paris as tens of
thousands rally against Covid certs, vax mandates in France (VIDEO)

* London protests: Thousands march through capital in day of protest

* Thousands of People Protest Coronavirus Lockdown in Australia

* Violent Protests Mar Funeral of Slain Haiti President

* Riots in South Africa have left people hungry - it's the poorest who
are worst hit

On a preparedness note, this is a good wake-up call for a lot of folks.

What I Did to Prep This Week

Have you seen the prices of new furniture lately? Talk about sticker
shock! That led me to drive my Jeep more than 300 miles this week to
pick up used furnishings for my little apartment. (YAY NO MORE AIR
MATTRESS AS OF SATURDAY!)

I focused on pieces with one or more of the following traits:

* Extra storage space

* High potential resale value

* Good quality

* Matches the things I already had in my storage unit

It was actually really fun to furnish a place this way. We met some
incredibly nice people.

One very kind person GAVE me his dolly cart to move the heavy shelves I
bought from him. Don't tell him but I'm going to sneak it onto his porch
with a Home Depot gift card as a thank you. My daughter and I had a
long, lovely chat with a lady from whom we bought a mirror. We met a
very nice man who has family in the Valle de Guadalupe, near the part of
Mexico where I just lived. Then there was a guy I accidentally paid $10
too much (the bills from the ATM had stuck together) who contacted me
and offered to Paypal it back. I didn't have a single bad experience.

The apartment I'm renting did a credit check and I qualified for a
zero-deposit rental, which was awesome. I used the money I had set aside
for the deposit to furnish the place and still have a little bit left
over for for a fall patio garden.

Look this week for my upcoming article about prepping lessons I learned
from living in a tiny house. My time there was short but sweet, and very
educational.
