July 24, 2009, twelve years ago today, was the last time the federal minimum wage was raised.
In 2021, $7.25 isn’t a livable wage. Workers deserve a raise and $15 is the floor.
But Senate Republicans continue to use the Jim Crow filibuster to obstruct justice and progress, including raising the minimum wage.
That’s why Ayanna is pushing Senate Democrats to act with urgency to abolish the filibuster and raise the minimum wage to at least $15 an hour.
The people delivered the White House, the House, and the Senate to Democrats. Democrats have the responsibility to deliver for the people.
We won’t compromise and we won’t stop fighting for transformative policies that meet the scale and scope of the crises facing our communities — and that includes raising the minimum wage.
We can raise the wage to $15 an hour and lift millions of people out of poverty, but only if we continue pushing for this bold, progressive change.
