FIRST Texas Democrats walked out to prevent passage of a bill that would make it harder for people -- especially people of color -- to vote and make it easier for partisans to overturn election results.
THEN the craven Republican governor, Greg Abbott, called a special session in an attempt to force passage of the bill. So Democrats fled the state to deny the power-hungry Republicans a quorum. Abbott has since threatened them with arrest, while also vetoing pay for legislators, their staff, and even maintenance workers.
NOW some Texas Democrats are still in D.C. imploring the Senate to pass federal legislation to protect voting rights. We MUST show we are with them!

Look, John: Republican attacks on democracy in Texas and elsewhere are an existential threat. Last month, 100 leading scholars of democracy signed an open letter stating that if the GOP's voter suppression laws are permitted to stand, we will no longer have free and fair elections.
They also pointed out that Republicans are making arguments about ensuring the “purity” and “quality” of the vote, echoing language widely used during the Jim Crow era.
In this context it's CRITICAL that federal legislators take action to protect our elections, and that they do it NOW. We have to add our voices to those of the brave Texas Democrats -- show that you support the Texas Democrats who are DEMANDING that the Senate act to save our democracy.
