it's (almost) national parents day 2021 graphic

Hi John,

This past year has seen an onslaught of attacks on trans people, especially trans youth. Before National Parents Day, I want to tell you about what supporting trans youth and the trans liberation movement looks like.

Many of us have a variety of experiences coming out to family, friends, and employers. Support looks non-traditional in my family; the most memorable was witnessing both of my parents show up during my gender affirming surgery consultation, where I remember my surgeon saying it was the first time in his 30-year medical career that he witnessed familial support like this.

Today, my parents are NCTE’s largest individual donors. I celebrate them on National Parents Day, not just because they support me, but because they commit to this critical work led by NCTE Action Fund to expand the Voting While Trans Program, and ensure trans people are heard and represented at the state and federal level.

To me, showing up on National Parents Day is about reflecting on the myriad of ways that my parents engage trans issues, and educate others on what it truly means to be an agent of change in this nation.

Allyship is an action. Be an accomplice to change, like my parents, and commit to a $10 monthly donation today.

In this together,
