Happy Self-Care Day, friends!
You might not expect this from a former high school quarterback who’s been on the picket line and in union halls his whole life, but it’s true: I love yoga.
Like, really love it.
There’s nothing like a hot yoga session in the morning to prepare for a long day on the campaign trail. And my mindfulness meditation practice has been key to keeping a cool head in Washington.
That’s why I founded the House’s “Quiet Time Caucus,” where I teach meditation techniques to my fellow representatives. Ditto for the House Military Mental Health Caucus, which I founded after seeing the power of yoga literally transform veterans dealing with physical and mental health issues.
None of this is new or groundbreaking. These practices are rooted in ancient traditions dating back hundreds of thousands of years -- but they remain as valuable as ever in our chaotic world. And I truly believe they can help us overcome the partisan divides in Congress and in our country. By caring for ourselves, we can better care for others. By listening deeply, we can understand, not just react.
As I run to flip Ohio’s open Senate seat blue, I’m putting these principles in action. I’m glad you’re with me in this grassroots campaign, and I hope you fully enjoy Self-Care Day. Today, we recharge. Tomorrow, the next day, and every day until Election Day, we work harder than ever to cut workers in on the deal.
Take care,
Tim Ryan
