John --
Today marks 12 full years since the federal government last raised the minimum wage. It's been sitting at $7.25 an hour while the cost of basic necessities like food, rent, and utilities have sky-rocketed with each passing year.
Dwight is an original co-sponsor of the Raise The Wage Act to gradually raise the federal minimum wage to $15 by 2025. Senator Bernie Sanders has introduced a similar bill, and with Democratic majorities in the House and Senate -- this is our chance to finally raise the minimum wage.
Dwight needs to know your thoughts. Do you agree with Dwight that it's past time to raise the minimum wage and lift millions of workers out of poverty?
No single person should be working a full-time job and still living in poverty -- period. But right now, millions of workers in the United States are working jobs that keep them in poverty, instead of rightfully lifting them out of it.
The COVID-19 pandemic has only exacerbated economic inequities. Increasing the minimum wage will provide a raise to over 33 million workers and restart the heart of local economies across the country.
It's time for action. Let Dwight know what you think: Should we raise the federal minimum wage? Take the poll »
Thank you,
Team Evans
