Gun violence is killing and traumatizing our children. We must act now, John.

This past week, a six-year-old girl was shot and killed while walking home in Washington, D.C. In Chicago, a 12-year-old girl and four teenagers were shot and injured. A day after the shooting in Washington, D.C., an 8-year-old girl recollected how this was the second shooting she survived after gunfire broke out at an MLB game.
Friend, what will it take to end this senseless violence?

The bottom line is that no one should have to live with the fear of being shot and killed — especially our children.

But lawmakers in Washington are enabling America’s surging gun violence epidemic and are failing young people across the country — and we need your immediate help to change that. Will you take our July 2021 National Survey to protect our children and help combat gun violence across the country? We need to let Congress know that they need to act NOW, and your input will help us stop the senseless bloodshed.

TAKE THE NATIONAL SURVEY [ secure.everyaction.com/9YrznnHKhkGyE0bxhMR4PA2?ms=adv4]Deadline: 11:59 p.m. tonight
Thank you for making your voice heard alongside Brady. We can ensure, together, that we have solutions in place to protect our children from gun violence.

In solidarity,
Team Brady

This week marked nine years since the community of Aurora, Colorado, was devastated by one of the deadliest mass shootings in modern U.S. history when a gunman entered a movie theater and used an AR-15 assault-style rifle to shoot and kill 12 people and injure more than 70 others. Today, and every day, it’s vitally important to remember [[link removed]] the victims’ names, stories, and the lives they lived:

Jonathon Blun, Alexander "AJ" Boik, Jessie Childress, Gordon Cowden, Jessica Ghawi, John Larimer, Matt McQuinn, Micayla Medek, Veronica Moser-Sullivan, Alex Sullivan, Alexander Teves, and Rebecca Wingo.

In the aftermath of the 2012 Aurora shooting, Brady worked tirelessly to uphold life-saving laws and enact new, sensible solutions to prevent yet another massacre. In 2013, Brady Legal helped uphold Aurora’s ban on high-capacity magazines when the gun lobby challenged it in court. More recently, following the tragic shootings in Colorado Springs and Boulder, we helped pass three major gun violence prevention state laws that will save lives. And we officially launched a new grassroots chapter, Brady Colorado, to mobilize Coloradans in the fight against gun violence. We can’t bring back the lives lost that day nine years ago, but we are proud to have honored them with action.

Please help us honor the victims and survivors of the Aurora mass shooting by taking action alongside Brady today:

Brady California Advances Landmark Legislation to Regulate “Ghost Guns” in San Francisco

Untraceable, homemade “ghost guns” are a growing threat across America, and local San Francisco lawmakers are taking action to protect their communities. Since last year, San Francisco police have recovered 164 ghost guns compared to the six they confiscated in 2015 — a 2600% increase. Ghost guns undermine California's strong gun laws and threaten public safety: They’ve been used in robberies, shootings, and homicides, including the murders of two students at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, California.
It’s why Brady California was proud to testify in support of the state’s first local ordinance to ban the parks and kits used to build ghost guns. On Thursday, Brady California Legislative and Policy Chair Ruth Borenstein and Crime Guns Program Manager Steve Lindely helped pass the bill out of committee and advance it to the next legislative step. We know that our vital work will help save lives. Already, the cities of San Jose and San Diego are introducing bills to ban ghost guns, showing localities can take bold action to protect public safety in absence of the state and federal government.

[[link removed]]Episode 140: The Second Amendment in an Unequal America
Many have regarded the Second Amendment as a bright example of our nation's dedication to the principles of liberty; the right to own and use firearms is often tied to the preservation and enjoyment of other freedoms, like speech and religion, which are also linked to the idea that thinking of one immediately conjures up the other. Yet not everyone throughout our history has seen firearms as a symbol of something noble. To discuss how these differing perspectives connect to the Second Amendment and its complex cultural legacy, we welcome Dr. Carol Anderson, a historian and New York Times best-selling author of "The Second: Race and Guns in a Fatally Unequal America.”

Our Gun Violence Prevention Hero of the Week is James Santelle , former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin and Board Vice President of the Wisconsin Anti-Violence Effort (WAVE) Educational Fund. This week, Santelle joined Brady Midwest Program Manager Anneliese Dickman to host a video presentation to educate Wisconsinites [[link removed]] about the growing threat of so-called “Second Amendment sanctuary” resolutions within the state.

As an expert attorney, Santelle underscored that while gun violence prevention laws don’t violate the Constitution, these reckless statutes do. These resolutions are putting lives at risk by spurring both confusion and compliance issues. Fortunately in Wisconsin, Gov. Tony Evers just vetoed [[link removed]] the dangerous Second Amendment sanctuary bill that recently passed the state legislature [[link removed]] . But we’re concerned about an attempt to override the veto. Wisconsinites should call their state legislators to let them know this bill puts public safety at risk.

This agency hasn't had a permanent director since 2015, and Chipman is a 25-year retired ATF agent who is vastly qualified for the role. At a time when our nation's gun violence epidemic is raging, we need strong leadership with experience. Please, urge your senators to vote to confirm Chipman NOW!
