Texas business group backtracks on discriminatory legislation: Back in 2017, the Texas Association of Business (TAB) was instrumental in blocking the passage of an anti-trans bathroom bill, arguing that “discriminatory legislation is bad for business.”

But now that lawmakers are working to disproportionately restrict the voting power of Black and Brown Texans, TAB has changed its tune. They’ve poured nearly $87,000 into the campaign coffers of 42 lawmakers who support voter suppression legislation.

Unfortunately, this development is not all that surprising. After all, TAB is closely aligned with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which has a long history of funding voter suppression efforts and is currently working to block passage of H.R. 1, the For the People Act.

AT&T Claims to Support Voter Access, But Its Texas PAC Gave $100K To Texas Governor Abbott The Same Day He Called For A Special Legislative Session To Pass A Major Voter Suppression Bill

Accountable.US is continuing our work to expose the hypocrisy of businesses that publicly support voting rights while making political contributions to the architects of voter suppression.

Our investigation revealed that AT&T infused $100,000 into Governor Greg Abbott’s campaign the very same day he called for a special session to pass new voting restrictions.

“Watchdog says AT&T gave over $100K to Abbott, GOP lawmakers after vowing to support voting rights”
-- The Hill

AT&T’s six-figure contribution to Governor Abbott was not an anomaly. Records indicate that the company has funneled over $300,000 to Texas lawmakers pushing for anti-democracy legislation.

A new video from Polluters Exposed highlights the words of Keith McCoy, senior director of federal relations at ExxonMobil, openly admitting to fighting against climate science and opposing federal regulations to protect their profit margins.

It is critical to amplify this message as the American Petroleum Institute, after decades of blocking progress, continues its attempt to rebrand and convince the American people that they and their members now support climate action.
