Republican AGs try to revive a near-total abortion ban.
Friend, yesterday news broke that the Republican Attorney General in Mississippi is pushing the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade. It’s the latest in a steady drip of attacks on our reproductive freedoms from a GOP that’s dead-set on turning them into a flood.
Earlier this week, a group of Republican Attorneys General started fighting to revive a South Carolina bill that effectively bans abortions after just six weeks, and this news out of Mississippi is sure to embolden more Republican AGs to attack our reproductive rights.
These kinds of radical policies endanger the health and bodily autonomy of millions of people – especially those from BIPOC and low-income communities. And this aggressive push from GOP AGs has the potential to tip the national scales.
In addition to these attacks from Republican AGs, GOP-led legislatures have been passing near-total abortion bans all over the country, with the end goal of the Trump-packed Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade – and outlawing safe and legal abortions everywhere, for good.
With so much Republican momentum to abolish abortions completely, every state needs a pro-choice champion to squash these efforts early – like a Democratic Attorney General, who can fight for us on the frontlines.
I can promise you this: Every DAGA-backed Democratic nominee is a fierce pro-choice advocate, who will defend everyone’s right to affordable health care, including abortion access, with everything they’ve got.
We were the first national committee to make that pledge – and looking at the Dem AGs’ track record, it’s really paid off. When Louisiana passed a restrictive abortion law, 22 Dem AGs took legal action – and the Supreme Court ultimately struck down the law.
