Team — President Biden’s American Rescue Plan (ARP) provides approximately $435 million in federal funding to help smaller SC cities and towns increase vaccine distribution, fund teacher salaries, create new jobs, assist small businesses, and provide other much-needed assistance to help boost our state’s public health and economic recovery.
Yet, out of South Carolina’s 270 cities and towns, only 17 have received their ARP funding so far, despite the fact that all Gov. McMaster’s Administration has to do is simply request the ARP funds from the federal government.
That’s it.
Instead of doing right by the people of South Carolina, he sees what the Delta variant is already doing to our state and still doubles down by making it harder for us to get vaccinated. That alone puts our immunocompromised and children under 12 at much greater risk of COVID exposure, hospitalization and death as our numbers begin to skyrocket…again!
The longer the McMaster administration waits to request the $435 million in ARP funding available to our smaller cities and towns, the more our state loses. Add your name to join me in demanding that Gov. McMaster request all available ARP funding immediately:
Interest earnings, contractual opportunities, public health services, infrastructure investments, and other economic drivers that will help jumpstart our local governments’ ability to provide essential services and fully recover are at stake, while McMaster drags his feet.
The state is merely a distributor of these funds and has no authority to determine how this federal money is allocated or spent by local municipalities.
I’ll continue to work with the Municipal Association of South Carolina and local elected officials to ensure our small cities and towns receive their vital ARP funding as soon as possible. But the truth is, Gov. McMaster's administration could get this critical funding to smaller cities and towns by simply requesting it… NOW.
That’s why I’m calling on Gov. McMaster to request the remaining federal funding for smaller SC cities and towns immediately! Will you join in putting pressure on the McMaster administration by signing your name?
Thank you for speaking out. Our cities and towns can’t wait any longer for this desperately needed relief.
