Team,
July is #FibroidAwarenessMonth, and this is an issue near and dear to my heart. Millions of women suffer from uterine fibroids, including a staggering 80% of Black women by the age of 50.
That’s why I’ve introduced the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Uterine Fibroid Research and Education Act to not only give this issue the attention it deserves, but also the funding we need to develop new treatments and a cure.
This will also help address medical racism that too many Black and brown people face, with Black women bearing the brunt of the medical industry’s systemic racism. This bill will save lives, plain and simple.
Here’s what this legislation will do:
-
Provide $150 million to the National Institutes of Health for critical research
-
Create a uterine fibroids public education program through the CDC
-
Improve data collection on those affected by uterine fibroids
Far too many women suffer in silence, and through this bill, I hope to uplift their stories and experiences so we can make a real, material change in the lives of women across the country.
But I can’t keep up this kind of groundbreaking work without your help. If you support this kind of legislation that I work so hard to bring to the fore, please donate $10 to my re-election campaign so we can continue this progress.
Thank you so much for your support and for helping me uplift the voices of women, and Black women in particular, across the country.
