By now, you’ve probably heard all about the brave Texas Democratic lawmakers, who have brought their fight for voting rights all the way to D.C.

Friend, when I heard the news, what struck me most was how familiar this fight is. Just like in Georgia, Texas Republicans have launched an all-out assault on voting rights – with direct consequences on Black and brown communities. As another Southern state that has fought tooth and nail for progress – and watching that very progress threatened by Republican anti-voter laws – now is the time for Georgia to show up in solidarity.


There is one reason why Republicans are attacking the right to vote: because they’re scared. Scared of the power we showed when we organized to do the impossible: elect Georgia’s first Black Senator to Washington. Scared of what happens when Black and brown communities organize and rise.

This fight is not just about voting rights. This is about the systematic undermining of communities of color, and the relentless attempts to silence voters' voices. Because by voting, we take hold of our power. And generations of Americans have fought too long, and too hard, to see that taken away – not in Georgia, Texas or anywhere. Just 10 years ago, a blue Georgia was impossible to imagine – yet here we are today. Friend, the same is happening in Texas. Just like in Georgia, Texas Democrats are organizing their communities – and have narrowed the electoral gap to striking distance. But if Republicans are allowed to silence Texans, all that progress will be reversed.
