POWERING THE 2022 RAINBOW WAVE

After extremists in the Pennsylvania legislature launched aggressive efforts to “audit” the 2020 election, Malcolm Kenyatta joined MSNBC to vigorously call for federal voter protections. He also joined fellow out Representative Jessica Benham on the campaign trail to speak with voters one on one. If elected, Malcolm would be the first out gay man elected to the U.S. Senate and the first Black out member of the body.

U.S. Congresswoman Norma Torres just endorsed out candidate Daniel Hernández Jr. in his race for Arizona’s 2nd Congressional district!

Michele Rayner-Goolsby spoke with Tagg Magazine about her historic campaign for the U.S. Congress – she’d be the first Black out LGBTQ woman elected to Congress! She was also named as the recipient of the National Bar Associations YLD’s 2021 Humanitarian Award!

Heather Mizeur, our candidate for Maryland’s first Congressional District, announced a huge slate of endorsements from state and local leaders. Read the full list here.

Incumbent candidate Ricardo Lara announced SEIU California is once again standing with him in his race for California Insurance Commissioner!

Three things you must know about U.S. Congressman Chris Pappas’s latest opponent: One. Donald Trump refers to her as “one of his kids”. Two. She worked for U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik, who alleges the 2020 election was fraudulent. And three: she doesn’t know the layout of New Hampshire’s first congressional District, which she hopes to represent.

2021: HISTORY IN THE MAKING

Vincent Solomeno is hard at work on the campaign trail, meeting voters and discussing their issues. He also announced an endorsement from the New Jersey Education Association! If elected, Vincent will flip his seat and make history as the first out person elected to the New Jersey state Senate!

Darden Rice, running to be the first out mayor of St. Petersburg, announced two endorsements from her fellow councilmembers. She also outraised all but one of her opponents, and holds the most cash on hand.

Spotlight candidate Liliana Bakhtiari outraised her opponents last quarter in her race for the Atlanta City Council!

Mariah Moore, our candidate for the New Orleans City Council, spoke with Big Easy Magazine about her historic race and her plans to address crime, housing and LGBTQ equality. Read the full interview here.

Tyler Titus joined Run for Something’s latest podcast episode to discuss their race for the Erie County Executive and their plans to be the first out trans county executive in U.S. history. Listen here!

THE FIGHT FOR TRANS EQUALITY

Two wonderful pieces of news: judges in Arkansas and West Virginia have blocked laws targeting trans health care and trans kids playing sports! We’re excited the courts have stood with trans kids. Danica Roem, who’s currently running for reelection to the Virginia House of Delegates, said it best:

Danica Roem, defend all your constituents

Pro-equality champions in Texas defeated a massive slate of anti-trans legislation earlier this year. But while the delegates are in DC to protect voting rights, Governor Greg Abbott is plotting a “solution” to the “problem” of trans health care. We’ll be keeping an eye on this threat.
