For years, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program — or DACA — has been a lifeline for thousands of young people to live and contribute to the only country they’ve ever called home.
But last week, a Republican-appointed federal judge in Texas ruled that DACA was illegal, blocking future applications to the program.
This is heartbreaking news for the families who rely on the program.
This ruling will greatly impact members of our community, as thousands of people across New Mexico depend on DACA to study, work, and contribute to our great state. This ruling is also an urgent reminder that Congress must act immediately to protect Dreamers. That’s why I’m asking:
Will you sign my petition urging Congress to pass legislation to provide permanent protections for Dreamers and shield undocumented youth from deportation?
We have to recognize the constant fear and uncertainty that Dreamers and their families face as Republican-controlled states continue to attack our most vulnerable communities.
The need for permanent legal protections for undocumented people is more important than ever. I’ll continue working with my colleagues in the Senate to ensure that DACA recipients receive the protection they deserve.
Con gratitud,
Ben Ray
