** A Decade On: How Oslo Ignited the Global White Supremacist Movement

On the 10-year anniversary of the Oslo attack, the Forums at MPAC hosted a special conversation, titled “Oslo: The Tipping Point of Global White Nationalism”, with three leading experts, each working to combat the rising threat of global white supremacy: Dr. Torkel Brekke, Dr. Sindre Bangstad, and Daryl Johnson. The July 22nd, 2011 terrorist attack in Oslo carried out by white nationalist Anders Breivik led to a decade of widespread global white supremacist violence. The forum focused on the implications of Brievik’s violence on the global nature of white supremacy, the history of counterterrorism policy in the United States and Norway over the last decade, and each government's ability to mitigate this growing threat.

This week we presented our joint report with Emgage Action, The Double Standards of U.S. FTO vs. DTO Prosecution ([link removed]) , in the United States Capitol. The report details the double standards of terrorism prosecution that have long existed and provides recommendations on how to effectively counter the threat of white supremacy, in the hopes of keeping Americans out of harm's way, and ensuring that Muslim communities are not unfairly and disproportionately targeted.

** Our First-Ever Eid Prayer in the United States Capitol
------------------------------------------------------------

On a day when Muslims celebrated Eid Al-Adha, we at the Muslim Public Affairs Council marked this holy occasion by hosting our first-ever Eid prayer in the United States Capitol.

We appreciate the support of Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer and Congressman André Carson, who was in attendance. This could have only been done through our strong relationship with Congressional Leadership which allowed for an opportunity for members of our Congressional Leadership Development Program (CLDP) to have a place to celebrate Eid. MPAC, through the CLDP program, not only helps place passionate Muslim students into competitive internships in Congressional offices but also provides them with a stipend and housing.

On the anniversary of the Oslo attacks a decade ago, we featured in 'The Forums at MPAC' - Oslo: The Tipping Point of Global White Nationalism', and sat down with Torkel Brekke, lead analyst at Norway’s Center for Research on Extremism, Daryl Johnson, former analyst at the Department of Homeland Security, and Sindre Bangstad, author of Anders Breivik and the Rise of Islamophobia, and discussed the legacy of white supremacist extremism following the Oslo attacks.
