John — This week, thanks to the leadership of SEEC members, the House of Representatives passed a crucial bill to protect public health by regulating Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The PFAS Action Act will: *
Limit
human
exposure
to
PFAS
by
requiring
a
drinking
water
standard
for
PFAS
that
protects
the
health
of
the
public.
*
Identify
health
risks
by
demanding
comprehensive
health
testing
for
all
PFAS
+
and
monitoring
for
PFAS
in
drinking
water.
*
Limit
the
release
of
PFAS
contamination
into
the
environment
by
requiring
cleanup
of
contaminated
sites,
setting
air
emission
limits,
prohibiting
unsafe
incineration
of
PFAS,
and
limiting
the
introduction
of
new
PFAS
chemicals
into
the
marketplace.
PFAS have been tied to dangerous health outcomes including cancer, immune system effects, infertility, impaired child development, high cholesterol, and thyroid disease. These man made chemicals are extremely persistent once created, which has given them the nickname of “forever chemicals.”While the Trump Administration turned a blind eye to the danger of PFAS, SEEC members led the charge to pass The PFAS Action Act. SEEC member Rep. Debbie Dingell wrote the bill, and was joined by SEEC members Reps. Susan Wild and Kim Schrier as cosponsors.
Despite all we know about the dangers of PFAS, 183 Republicans voted against the bill, which is why we’re asking you to pitch in to help us re-elect our SEEC members who stood up for our environment and our public health. Will you chip in today? [[link removed]]
