Friend, by now you may know that supporters like you have helped UNICEF and partners launch the largest and fastest immunization program in history. That immunization program is being put to the test as we race against spikes from the Delta variant.
Through the COVAX Facility, we’ve been entrusted with procuring and delivering billions of vaccines to low- and middle-income countries around the world. UNICEF’s infrastructure, experience and expertise have all been critical in the global fight to end this pandemic.
But vaccines, testing kits and other supplies are only one part of the job. The COVID-19 pandemic is further aggravating existing crises for children and threatening to reverse years of progress we’ve made together.
We can’t let that happen, Friend, so we’re ramping up key programs to meet the increased needs of vulnerable children. Here’s what we’re doing in Yemen:
- Screening and vaccinating children against preventable diseases like polio and measles.
- Providing learning materials, bolstering formal and informal education and supporting teachers who haven't received their government salaries since 2016.
- Treating children suffering from severe acute malnutrition, which is on the rise due to years of war and poverty in addition to the economic impacts of the pandemic.
- Supporting psychosocial and mental health services for children exposed to the ongoing violence or those facing increased distress due to the pandemic.
- Distributing safe water for drinking, cooking and personal hygiene as well as soap and other supplies to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
