The federal government’s spending bill does not include protections against federal funding of abortion. Healthcare workers who consciously object to participating in abortions will also no longer be protected under the law if the bill is passed in Congress.

Soon, Congress will be voting on the 2022 spending bill, which currently does not include the Hyde Amendment protections against taxpayer-funded abortion. We must act now to convince our representatives to not sign this bill. 

The Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies appropriations bill, which provides funding for certain federal agencies and programs, currently does not include the Hyde Amendment for the first time since the amendment’s implementation in 1976. The legislation has also removed the Weldon Amendment, which provides conscience protections for healthcare workers. If this spending bill is passed, healthcare workers could be forced to perform abortions, and your tax dollars could be used to fund those abortions.

We must tell Congress that including taxpayer-funded abortions in the appopriations bill violates the trust of the American people in their federal government.

U.S. Rep. Kay Granger, a pro-life Republican from Texas is right in saying this spending bill is “out of step with the views of most Americans”.

In January 2018, 64 percent of Americans opposed using tax dollars to pay for a woman’s abortion.

We must act now to convince our representatives to do whatever is necessary to prevent our money from being used to kill unborn babies. Congress will vote on the bill the week of July 26.
