NHS workers deserve a real pay rise.
The Green Party supports #NHSPay15

Hi John,

As an NHS worker, over the last 18 months I and my colleagues have gone through so much.

We have been denied proper PPE, overworked, and literally required to put our lives on the line just to do our jobs. This is something that no-one should have to do at work.

I am so proud of the lifesaving work that over one million NHS staff have done during the pandemic. But at the same time, I am furious at what this government has done to all of us.

Holly Johnston, NHS Workers say no campaign

And after all this, the government announced it would be offering NHS workers just 3% as a pay rise this year. After 18 months of the Covid pandemic, I believe that NHS workers deserve a real pay rise.

But this isn’t just about workers like me. This is about the future of our NHS.

The NHS has a shortage of at least 84,000 nurses and other staff. And it’s no wonder they are struggling to recruit - because the Conservatives have seen our pay fall by 15% over a decade over brutal austerity.

If we don’t pay NHS workers what they deserve, we won’t be able to hire them. And that means longer waiting times, more burnout among staff, and patient safety at risk.

The NHS is one of our proudest achievements, and we need to fight to save it. Please join me, and tell this government that we need to give NHS workers a real pay rise.

Campaigners like me are calling for a 15% pay rise to restore NHS pay after a decade of brutal austerity. And I’m proud that the Green Party is supporting our demands - the biggest political party to do so.

But NHS workers will only win what we deserve if we have the whole country behind us. Please join me and keep telling the government that we say NO to poverty pay in our NHS.

Thank you, John, and solidarity,

Holly Johnston
