Geary Gets More Transit Lanes!

With the help and support of our members, we made sure the 38 Geary TETLs became permanent at Tuesday's SFMTA board meeting - thanks to everyone who called in!

Geary buses have some of the highest ridership, and we've waited too long for commonsense improvements that make Muni a faster option.

Mission and Geary transit-only lanes were both under consideration prior to the pandemic, and likely benefited from some pre-planning and outreach. The next temporary transit lanes to be voted on are less certain. We're concerned about the transit lanes on the 4th Street Bridge (essential for fixing the T Third), and on the 1 California. Both have more opposition and SFMTA is making some compromises for cars. Stay tuned as those come up for votes in the fall.

Rebuild Muni - Community Organizing in Action

While SFMTA is moving ahead with transit-only lanes and we're building ever more support for good transit priority, it's just one piece of the solution for excellent public transit.

We need to make sure access is restored as soon as possible for all riders, bringing back community connections that too many riders are still missing. And we need to push for bold funding for Muni: we need to finally address the maintenance backlog that keeps impacting service; and we need to continue to expand service to serve today's riders better and bring more on board.

We're out on the streets talking with riders to build support for our Rebuild Muni campaign, and the response is impressive. So far, in just a few hours, our volunteers and community organizers have gathered over 400 paper signatures! If you haven't already, please add your name!

Muni Route Hearing Tomorrow, 9:00 a.m.

Supervisors Preston and Chan have called a hearing at the Government Audit and Oversight Committee on "De Facto Route Abandonment and Service Restoration for Muni."

We are calling for the restoration of suspended lines by this winter to re-connect riders who remain left behind by Muni service cuts. This is part of our Rebuild Muni campaign. We think that with the low downtown demand, services can be reallocated to bring back the coverage riders need.

Please call in with your comments! We've prepared call-in instructions and talking points for you to use.
