Dear Neighbor:

This was a busy week in Congress. I’m happy to be back in Washington to help continue House Democrats’ work For the People.

This week marks 200 days of the 117th Congress. I’m pleased that over the last six months, House Democrats have passed landmark legislation to strengthen our democracy, create jobs, address AAPI hate, empower workers, and more. We’ve also taken decisive action to crush the coronavirus and improve the economy – including by passing the American Rescue Plan, which put shots in arms, money in pockets, people in jobs, and children safely back in school.

Thanks to Democrats’ American Rescue Plan, millions of American families started receiving Child Tax Credit payments last week. I was pleased to join Speaker Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Schumer, and my House and Senate DPCC colleagues this week to hear from mothers who have been helped by this tax cut for families with children. It was an honor to introduce Daniella Knight, a mother of three from Maryland, who courageously shared her story about how the money she received last week helped her pay for her 4-year-old’s surgery. Families like Daniella’s across the country are benefitting from this critical, lifesaving money. Every single Republican in Congress voted against the new tax cut for American families. However – we’d like to give our colleagues another chance to vote for this life-changing tax credit by working with President Biden to make it permanent. I joined my colleague Rep. Joe Neguse on the House floor earlier this week to highlight this and other key provisions in Democrats’ American Rescue Plan.

Our work is far from over. Now we’re working on the American Jobs Plan, which will help restore the millions of jobs that were lost during this pandemic and invest in our crumbling infrastructure. We’re also working on the American Families Plan, which will make crucial investments in education, childcare, and more.
