Hi John,
1 in 4 Americans has a disability. Some are seen and some aren't, but regardless of the unique challenges they face in their day-to-day, it's certain that disabled people are underrepresented in governing bodies as they hold less than 10% of elected offices.
Run for Something is teaming up with the National Council on Independent Living (NCIL) for Claim Your Seat, a conversation to encourage disabled community members to put their names on the ballot.
Join us on July 29th, at 08:00 p.m. ET for this FREE event. If you're a disabled person thinking about making a bid for public office, come meet our candidates and ask any questions you may have.
This event is free!
If you're hearing or vision impaired, we want you to claim your seat. If you've got a mobility disability or if you're neurodivergent, we want you to claim your seat.
It's important for folks with diverse lived experiences to be in office. People with disabilities are the best advocates for themselves and the disability community in halls of power. They know how and where the system is broken. If we're going to build more inclusive and accessible communities nationwide, we need to increase representation from the local level up.
We'll be getting together on Zoom with Live Transcription and simultaneous ASL translation available. If you have other accommodation needs, just reply to this email and we'll make it happen.
Can you make it, or send this to someone who should be on the call? It's July 29th at 8:00 p.m. ET. Come with ALL your questions about campaigning and serving in elected office -- we can help you win power.
See you there,
Amanda Litman
