Hi there, can I quickly explain something?

In 2010, Democrats had majorities in the House and Senate and President Obama was in his first term in the White House. But then, a disastrous trend developed.

Folks began to tune out, grassroots energy dropped below where it had been just two years earlier, and that November, fewer folks turned out to vote in the midterm election. Democrats lost 63 seats in the House — the entire majority, and six more in the Senate.

By the next midterm in 2014, Republicans won nine new seats and the Senate majority. Mitch McConnell turned the chamber into a legislative graveyard, allowing critical bills to pile up and collect dust on his desk, and well, you know the rest.

We must come to terms with the hard truth that this midterm trend could happen all over again if we do nothing to stop it. Republicans are gearing up to retake the majorities in Washington and the bad news is, our majorities are much slimmer this time around.

Look, I’m not telling you this to scare you. But with so much critical work still ahead, I want to know that we did everything we could to protect our Senate majority and keep the gavel from falling back into McConnell’s hands.

So I’m asking: Will you chip in to our campaign and help us protect our Democratic majorities in Washington?

This incredible grassroots team helped us take back the Senate majority, and for that I am so grateful. Together, I know we can protect it and continue fighting for progress in Washington.

Thanks for reading and chipping in if you can.
