PFAW Member – First the good news: This week the House voted to condemn Donald Trump's racism in clear, bold terms – with every Democrat voting in favor of the measure. It was the first time in more than 100 years that Congress formally rebuked a sitting president, and thousands of PFAW members played a part by speaking out and demanding that Congress make a strong statement in support of American values. Now the not-so-good, but unfortunately not surprising, news: Only 4 – FOUR!! – Republicans voted for the measure. The rest chose to be complicit in Trump's outright racism with their deafening silence. This is more proof that the GOP is truly the Party of Trump ... and apparently that means they're OK with being the party of racism. Now the SICKENING/TERRIFYING news: Last night at a Trump campaign rally, when Trump (predictably) attacked Reps. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Ayanna Pressley from the podium, the members of the crowd shouted “traitor!” (ironically, not directed at Trump) and “they’re evil!” … And when he focused in on Rep. Omar specifically the crowd began a sustained chant of “SEND HER BACK. SEND HER BACK.” Let that sink in for a second... We're less than 2 weeks from our July deadline but only 37% of the way to making our budget! We need to make up ground – and fast – because Republicans are doubling down on their support for Trump in the wake of his racist rants. Our records show that you have not yet donated. Please excuse us if this is not correct or if it does not reflect a very recent gift, but if it is correct, then now is the time to renew your support with your 2019 membership gift. Most new members give at the $35 level.
Trump's strategy is to make the freshmen progressive lawmakers he's been attacking the face of his Democratic opposition. It's no accident that they are all women of color and Trump's not even being subtle in his efforts to whip up racism. And the scary thing is that, with his base, it is actually working! Trump's approval ratings among Republicans have actually jumped up by 5 points since he began his racist attacks, according to one poll! Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), one of the Republican members of Congress who refused to rebuke Trump's racism, said of the House condemnation vote: "It won't be remembered at all ... This is Donald Trump's America." HE IS WRONG. This is OUR America. And that means ALL of us – including new Americans, people of color, and all of us whose views and beliefs (and, in some cases, very existence) Trump Republicans disagree with. THANK YOU for everything you do! -- PFAW
