Marjorie Taylor Greene is the latest GOP member evading accountability, but honestly, what’s new? Recently the Congresswoman from Georgia was suspended from Twitter for 12 hours for spreading lies and misinformation about COVID-19 and vaccines. Lies and misinformation are always dangerous, but they’re especially dangerous when they come from verifiable accounts people trust. Twitter took bold, necessary steps this year to quell the spread of misinformation by banning members of Congress who continue to violate their terms of use. We’re calling on all social media companies to follow in Twitter’s footsteps. Will you sign on and join us in demanding that social media companies hold individuals accountable for spreading false information?
Social media platforms act as primary news sources for millions of people across the world. They have boomed and will only continue to grow — which means that lies and misinformation will continue to grow too if they aren’t checked. We’ve already seen the chaos that dangerous people can spread via social media ... it was on full display on January 6th. We cannot let that happen again. Social media companies need to take action NOW to prevent future troubles. Sign on to our petition and demand that social media companies hold individuals accountable for spreading false information.
