I wanted to make sure you saw the news, folks:

NPR: State Attorneys General Reach a $26 Billion National Opioid Settlement

I led a bipartisan team of fellow attorneys general to reach the second largest state settlement agreement in the history of the country. After years of hard work, we are holding accountable the drug companies that have fueled our nation’s opioid crisis.

And after more than three years of investigation, litigation and negotiation, we’ve won hard-earned relief for our residents affected by the epidemic. That includes $750 million to bring much-needed treatment and recovery services to North Carolina communities.

That is a historic amount of money — and it’s going to make a real difference in people’s lives. This agreement will also require significant changes to the pharmaceutical industry to prevent a crisis like this from ever happening again.

I’m proud to have led the negotiations on this settlement, which will transform our state. I hope you’ll consider chipping in to support the work we’re doing to fight for real progress in North Carolina:

This is a good day in our efforts to tackle the opioid crisis, but our work is far from over because too many people are struggling and dying. Thanks for your support as we keep working to improve the lives of folks across our state.
