John,
It’s been an incredible journey these last few years here at Justice Democrats. And it’s incredible what we’ve done so far with limited resources.
In 2018, when Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was running for the House in a primary against a corporate Democrat, the political establishment wasn’t paying attention to us. JD recruited AOC to run and we invested what we had in her, even though it was a small fraction of what her opponent had in his campaign’s bank account.
We helped AOC manage her team, run her organizing program, and make everything we could of our small budget. Then and now, we operate with a tiny, tiny fraction of what Democratic Party organizations like the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) have in the bank.
We used that small budget to help AOC topple one of the most powerful corporate Democrats and elected the youngest woman ever to serve in Congress in his place.
Since winning that primary, we’ve used our small budget and scrappy staff and volunteers to help elect Jamaal Bowman and Cori Bush to Congress. We helped re-elect Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in tough primaries against corporate Democrats.
Money has always been one of the biggest things holding us back from doing more. It’s the one thing that our establishment opponents have a seemingly endless supply of and that we’re always working hard to raise just a fraction of what they can raise.
We’ve proven we can win. But we’re worried that our small budget, which gets even smaller during the slow fundraising summer months, will get too small to win the Congressional primaries we’re throwing down for next year: Odessa Kelly in TN-05, Rana Abdelhamid in NY-12, and Kina Collins in IL-07.
Our progressive challengers are getting our organizing, fundraising, and comms support right now. And that costs money. Plus, we need to ensure the Squad gets re-elected as a barrage of right-wing money is spent against them on negative ads.
We’re a grassroots organization. Whether or not we can succeed and grow beyond what we did in 2020 largely depends on supporters like you donating when you can.
So today, I’m asking you to help us make 2022 a winning year for Justice Democrats. I promise you that no other org will spend your money more efficiently in the fight for the working class of this country. If we can raise enough this year, I know we can elect more new Justice Dems than ever before.
So, what do you think? Can you make a $3 donation today?
I know we can do amazing things together. I’m grateful to be in this fight with you.
In solidarity,
Alexandra Rojas
