Friend,
Tonight, when the leading Democratic presidential candidates take the stage in Ohio, they’ll discuss issues ranging from healthcare to the environment. But will they talk about how these issues impact working families every single day?
Whether it’s fighting back against the Trump administration's repeated attacks on our collective bargaining rights, the U.S. Senate’s unwillingness to take up a $15 minimum wage bill passed by the House of Representatives, or weak overtime rules being implemented by Trump’s Department of Labor, as a country we need a real conversation about the policies needed to lift up working families and rebuild our middle-class.
Now, there’s EPI's brand new podcast, “The State of Working America.”

In this weekly podcast, we’ll share stories directly from working people across the United States — providing a critical space for workers to share their concerns and struggles and discuss the policy solutions needed to raise wages and strengthen collective bargaining rights.
The 30-minute podcasts will address a wide range of issues, including: wage stagnation, inequality, worker power, racism, trade and education.
Our interviews will feature workers in various industry sectors, labor activists and union members engaged in trying to change workplaces for the better. The shows will also include thoughtful analysis from EPI’s own policy experts.
Keeping informed about the issues facing working families across the United States is an essential part of advancing effective policy solutions — and, each week, we will use this podcast to make sure policy makers hear and address the concerns of working families.
Here’s October’s podcast lineup:
Episode 1: Focuses on the role of race in the American economy and features an interview with Valerie Wilson, Director of EPI’s Program on Race, Ethnicity and the Economy.
Episode 2: Features Chris Lu, President Barack Obama’s Deputy Secretary of Labor.
Episode 3: Features Mickey Ray Williams, a Firestone tire plant worker who also serves as President of USW Local 12 in Gadsden, Alabama and Robert Scott, EPI’s Senior Economist and Director of trade policy.
