Friend,
Right now, American politics is moving at breakneck speed. It can be hard to keep up, and to focus on the issues that matter to you most—but that’s why your participation is so crucial.
Registering to vote and showing up to the polls are more important than ever, and when you cast your ballot there are a number of things to keep in mind: Do you know which candidate(s)…
...will work to reduce drug arrests? Simple drug possession is by far the most arrested offense in the country, with 1.4 million arrests in 2017 alone.
...will prioritize health and safety for people who use drugs, rather than punishment?
...will end the many harms that now flow from drug possession convictions, including barriers to employment, education, housing, and more?
Decriminalizing the possession of drugs for personal use would accomplish all of this. And we need candidates who will support it. The drug war has disproportionately impacted people of color and low-income communities, and we need to reinvest in those most harmed by the criminalization of personal drug use.
You can take action right now, well ahead of the election, by signing our petition today to decriminalize drug use and possession, and telling your legislators that it’s time for transformative drug policy in the U.S.
